Tips to Help You Paint Your Garage Door
Any type of exterior painting, such as on steel garage doors, is hugely affected by the weather. When painting a garage door, pay attention to the weather forecasts for temperature, humidity, rain, and even direct sunshine. To get the optimum effect, it’s all about timing.
We’re going to paint a steel garage door today. Here’s what you need to do.
1. Wash the door – Clean up the steel garage doors by spraying them with a home wash and scrubbing them with a brush. You can also use a mild detergent of your choice.
2. Preparing the garage door – If you have an automatic door opener, unplug it for safety reasons and then pull the safety release chain to free up and down the door by hand. Scrub down any rust areas on the door with a wire brush and sandpaper if you need to fix them.
3. Apply paint – Start with the top panel and paint it first. Using a brush, finish the top panel with the bottom panel. Lift the door and work your way down each panel one at a time. In the end, you won’t get any drippings if you leave the door open. Depending on the color you choose, you’ll need one or two coats.
