4 Things to Consider Before Renovating
Home renovations are very exciting. Whether you were moving into a new home or revamping your existing one it’s great to be able to replace counter tops and kitchen designs that you were either bored of or never liked in the first place. However, there are several things that you want to keep in mind before you start the home remodeling process. This is especially true if they’re going to be room additions involved in your plans.
BudgetYou need to set a budget and stick to it. This should be done before even seeing any of the options that are available for room additions or whatever renovations you are going to be doing. Setting your budget before looking at options can help you to stay within your limits. Find a contractor or decorator that will help you choose wisely. You don’t want help from someone who is constantly going to be trying to up sell you. If you find this happening to you then you may want to move on and find someone else to help you with the remodeling. Only looking at options that are within your budget limit narrows down your choices and makes it a lot easier to decide on the various styles and types.
Time
Not only will you probably be paying by the hour but you may have a certain time goal in mind that will need to be communicated to the contractor. It’s a common practice for contractors to give out a certain time frame but then end up having to work longer because of unforeseen circumstances. The best way to avoid this is to not have a specific date in mind that you want to be finished by but to have a few weeks for the contractor to work within. Just because the work is taking longer than expected does not mean that the contractor is dragging his feet. There could be several reasons for this but because of it try not to pin them down to a specific day. Room additions can take time and encounter obstacles and complications that will need to be seen to.
Finalization
Make sure you have seen all of your options before you make a decision. This’ll make it a lot easier on your contractor. If you decide that your bathroom renovation should include an 18 jet Jacuzzi tub and then halfway through the work, you come in and realize that the 32 jet would also fit and be in your price range, this will cause more work, time and money to be wasted. Or another example would be if you decided on granite counter tops for your kitchen remodel and then once it is complete, you decide that you would’ve preferred slate or marble. That would make the process basically start from the beginning because the counter tops would need to be ripped out and replaced once again. To avoid this, view all of your options and think carefully before making a final decision. Once your final decision is made, stop looking at your options because they’re no longer options.
Company
Do your research into the construction company you will be using before they begin work. You’ll want to look at reviews written by other customers. You will probably want to compare quotes as well. This is smart because some companies will match the price of another if it is lower. The best way to find a renovation company is to talk to some of your friends who have had remodels done and find out what they liked or didn’t like about their chosen company. This will help you know what to look for when you start researching your own. You may even come across a friend that would highly recommend the company that they used and then you could even forgo all of the research.
Room additions and renovations are great idea for expanding the home and growth without forcing you to actually move to another place. When a house becomes a home it can be difficult to leave so if you need to expand and downsize, renovations and redoing the home is the way to go. However, keep these things in mind to give you an easier time when your house is being overrun by construction.
